Commercial Helicopters has been involved in many surveys including Kangaroos, Yellow Footed Rock Wallabies, Mallee Fowls, Green Algae and Plague Locusts. A lot of the animal surveying done is for research purposes by NPWS and Department of Primary Industries.

Power line inspections
Commercial Helicopters are heavily involved in the patrol of overhead powerlines. This work consists of annual inspections (generally carried out prior to the fire season August/September) and emergency call-out work.

The helicopter is flown at slow speed (approx 30kts or 50 km/hr) with a navigator and observer on board. The observer's job is to look for any faults in the poles and wires. All faults are noted with photos, co-ordinates, pole number and the type of fault.
